My Favorite Quotes:

"If you pick up a starving dog and make him prosperous, he will not bite you. This is the principal difference between a dog and a man."

-Mark Twain

gry

Charity is injurious unless it helps the recipient to become independent of it."

-John D. Rockefeller

gry

"Good communication is as stimulating as black coffee and just as hard to sleep after."

-Anne Morrow Lindbergh
Aviation pioneer, writer

gry

"I believe that banking institutions are more dangerous to our liberties than standing armies. If the American people ever allow private banks to control the issue of their currency, first by inflation, then by deflation, the banks and corporations that will grow up around [the banks] will deprive the people of all property until their children wake-up homeless on the continent their fathers conquered."

-Thomas Jefferson

(I should mention that we DO have a central baking institution that controls our money supply. Something even Tommy J knew was bad over 200 years ago!)

"Paper is poverty... it is only the ghost of money, and not money itself."

-Thomas Jefferson

"God did not give us logic and reason to ignore it in favor of blind faith and ignorance."

-Gustavo Diaz

"Your own mind is a sacred enclosure into which nothing harmful can enter except by your permission."

-Ralph Waldo Emerson

gry

"If you have a question, ask. Better ask a question and reveal your ignorance for a few minutes that not to ask and be ignorant for the rest of your life..."

-Cizer Bergman

[ This really hits home with me because I love asking questions. Sometimes when I ask a question people make me feel stupid for not knowing it, but I'd rather be stupid for a minute and know the answer forever. ]

gry

"The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy."

-Martin Luther King

[ I always loved this quote, I even have it posted on my wall at home. ]

gry

"Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind."

-Dr. Seuss

gry

"Government is evil because they try to control your actions, Religion is the ultimate evil because they try to control your thoughts."

think

Think ghygry

Too often in our lives we don't think enough as we should. We let outside influences like the media and TV dictate how we think, what we talk about and what we care about. This section is designed to make you think, and hopefully act! A society that is complacent and apathetic is destined to be controlled further distancing us from ever being truly free.

Everything on the page was not written by me unless specifically stated. It was probably borrowed from other credible web sites in order to further expand their message.

:: Save The Internet Before It's Too Late ::

By: ME! Gustavo Diaz

The Internet is great isn't it? All the information, all the worlds resources available at the touch of our fingers. Like Presidential candidate Ron Paul said, the Internet is the worlds greatest equalizer, a true forum for unbiased information and news.

But did you know the big telecom companies are trying to CHANGE the Internet. They want only the big corporate website's to download at the speeds we presently enjoy and the rest of the website's will be relegated to a second-tier, bargain basement class that might not even load at all. The big media companies want to control your access of information and entertainment, they want to ensure only their messages and their sites get through.. This is an insult to the founding fathers of our country who promised us freedom of speech and if we don't stop it NOW the Internet as we know will cease to exist forever.

It is up to US to stop these corrupt telecom companies (like AT&T, Verizon and Time Warner) from robbing us of our constitutional rights and turning the Internet into a privileged, controlled tiered system where most of us will be left at the bottom. What's even more unsettling is these companies should be at work trying to make the Internet faster--instead they're spending millions of dollars lobbying congress to adopt their new legislation to censor and control the net. In 2006, Congress took up a major overhaul of the Telecommunications Act called the "Communications Opportunity, Promotion and Enhancement Act of 2006," or COPE Act. Despite more than $175 million spent on lobbying, campaign contributions, deceptive advertising and fake grassroots groups, the phone and cable companies failed to pass their legislation. Why did it fail? Because more than a million concerned citizens wrote and called Congress opposing any bill that didn't protect Net Neutrality.

We beat them then and we will beat them now. Only the telecom companies are trying harder this time to pass their bills so we must respond with a large and resounding NO! Nobody, especially not corrupt self-interested corporations are going to take away our Internet.

Check out http://www.savetheinternet.com and write to congress like I did.

[Update! ]
U.S. Senator Dianne Feinstein (Dem. from California) responded today (10/19/07) to my email regarding net neutrality. I've wrote to Mrs. Feinstein several times and she has always responding positively to all my concerns and I urge you to do the same. Senators and Representatives are elected to serve the needs and will of their constituents, and it's our responsibly to communicate our desires and needs so they can represent that in Congress.

:: Bottled Water: A Global Environmental Problem ::

"...Consumers spend a collective $100 billion every year on bottled water in the belief—often mistaken—that it is better for us than what flows from our taps..."

“...Even in areas where tap water is safe to drink, demand for bottled water is increasing—producing unnecessary garbage and consuming vast quantities of energy,” reports Earth Policy Institute researcher Emily Arnold. Although in much of the world, including Europe and the U.S., more regulations govern the quality of tap water than bottled water, bottled water can cost up to 10,000 times more. At up to $10 per gallon, bottled water costs more than gasoline in the United States..."

Is It Really Full?

Posted On // Academictips.org

A philosophy professor stood before his class with some items on the table in front of him. When the class began, wordlessly he picked up a very large and empty mayonnaise jar and proceeded to fill it with rocks, about 2" in diameter.

He then asked the students if the jar was full. They agreed that it was.

So the professor then picked up a box of pebbles and poured them into the jar. He shook the jar lightly. The pebbles, of course, rolled into the open areas between the rocks.

He then asked the students again if the jar was full. They agreed it was.

The professor picked up a box of sand and poured it into the jar. Of course, the sand filled up everything else.
He then asked once more if the jar was full. The students responded with a unanimous "Yes."

"Now," said the professor, "I want you to recognize that this jar represents your life. The rocks are the important things - your family, your partner, your health, your children - things that if everything else was lost and only they remained, your life would still be full.

The pebbles are the other things that matter - like your job, your house, your car.

The sand is everything else. The small stuff."

"If you put the sand into the jar first," he continued "there is no room for the pebbles or the rocks. The same goes for your life.

If you spend all your time and energy on the small stuff, you will never have room for the things that are important to you. Pay attention to the things that are critical to your happiness. Play with your children. Take your partner out dancing. There will always be time to go to work, clean the house, give a dinner party and fix the disposal.

Take care of the rocks first - the things that really matter. Set your priorities. The rest is just sand."

The Sculptor's Attitude
By Unknown Author

My friend Sugey turned me onto this very true and inspiring short.

I woke up early today, excited over all I get to do before the clock strikes midnight. I have responsibilities to fulfill today. I am important. My job is to choose what kind of day I am going to have.

Today I can complain because the weather is rainy or I can be thankful that the grass is getting watered for free.

Today I can feel sad that I don't have more money or I can be glad that my finances encourage me to plan my purchases wisely and guide me away from waste.

Today I can grumble about my health or I can rejoice that I am alive.

Today I can lament over all that my parents didn't give me when I was growing up or I can feel grateful that they allowed me to be born.

Today I can cry because roses have thorns or I can celebrate that thorns have roses.

Today I can mourn my lack of friends or I can excitedly embark upon a quest to discover new relationships.

Today I can whine because I have to go to work or I can shout for joy because I have a job to do.

Today I can complain because I have to go to school or eagerly open my mind and fill it with rich new tidbits of knowledge.

Today I can murmur dejectedly because I have to do housework or I can feel honored because the Lord has provided shelter for my mind, body and soul.

Today stretches ahead of me, waiting to be shaped. And here I am, the sculptor who gets to do the shaping.

What today will be like is up to me. I get to choose what kind of day I will have!
